Russell County Free Fair begins Tuesday

Counties around Kansas hold their annual fairs beginning at the end of June. The fourth week of July is Russell's turn. The annual Russell County Free Fair begins today and runs through Friday.

Monday's events will largely consist of 4-H judging. Turtle and Frog races are scheduled for Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at the pig arena. Free popcorn will be sponsored by Dream Theatre. The Henry Wenthe Summer National Turtle and Frog Races begin at 6 p.m. Bittersweet Dueling Pianos takes the stage from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, the Black & Gold Pheasants Forever BB Gun Shoot begins at 6 p.m. in the outdoor horse arena. The carnival runs from 6-10 p.m. with free hot dogs beginning at 6:30. Jadynce Jean will play the main stage from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m.

Tractor pull registration begins Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m. for ages 4-12, with the actual event beginning at 6. The carnival will again begin at 6 p.m. with free watermelon courtesy of Farm Bureau beginning at 6:30. Kids Barnyard Games and Ranch Rodeo runs from 7-9, and Vandelyn Kross cap the evening on the main stage from 9:30 to 11 p.m.

Friday's Farmers Market runs from 5-7 p.m. The presentation of awards begins at 6:30 with the 4-H livestock sale to follow. Jimmy Harris takes the stage Friday evening from 9:30 to 11:30.
