The Great Bend Municipal Airport has accrued Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) entitlement and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) grants that are sufficient to fund 95% of a 2025 rehabilitation of Runway 17/35. The project is designed to crack-fill and slurry seal the runway, along with remarking the pavement.
Airport Manager Martin Miller said the city will enter into an agreement with Garver LLC to administer the upcoming 5-year Airport Improvement Program.
"Garver's cost on doing the project up to the bidding is not something we bid on," said Miller. "The FAA wants it that way to meet a scope of work. For the next two years on this project, the FAA has been funded by one of the President's bills at 95%. We haven't had that for a long time. We're only paying 5% of this slurry seal repair."
For $79,100, Garver will provide the preliminary design, final design and bidding services for the project. Finding a consultant for the design is one of the first steps Great Bend has to do to be eligible for FAA grants.
