The Great Bend City Council will be presented a motion at next Monday’s meeting to allow golf carts on certain streets within city limits. In January 2020, the city began distributing plates and tags for the legal use of Utility Task Vehicles (UTV) and side-by-sides. Citizens approached administration requesting the city allow golf carts as well.
A proposed ordinance would allow and regulate all three types of vehicles in a single chapter of the Great Bend code.
UTV owners that want to drive on city streets have to contact to the Great Bend Police Department to schedule an inspection date along with paying a registration and license plate fee. The vehicles are not allowed on highways such as 10th Street, Main Street or K-96 Highway except to cross.
The City of Hoisington has special vehicle permits available that allow the use of golf carts.
The council meeting May 20 will begin at 6:30 p.m. inside City Hall.
