Residents in Central Kansas have had little to complain about with winter weather this season. With considerable snow and ice moving into the area over the weekend, Great Bend's Whine About Winter Sale became a little more fitting. Community Coordinator Christina Hayes said the event is a collaboration between Great Bend Alive and Explore Great Bend.
"It's kind of crazy to think about but stores need to start clearing out the winter items, so this is when they start their big winter clearance," she said. "Its' really a good weekend to go and start shopping to get some good deals on these cold-weather items."
The Whine About Winter Sale begins at participating businesses at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11. Shoppers can head to the Crest Theatre in downtown Great Bend for the snowball drop at 10 a.m.
"The participating stores have sizzling deals, and of course we want you to shop all day," Hayes said. "But there's a fun, added piece to it that was started last year by Great Bend Alive where you to the Crest at 10, can have some pre-drop entertainment, then you can gather some of the snowballs. You can get deals, t-shirts, swag, and a lot of coupons. It's kind of a fun way to get people to shop local and have a great time during this winter savings."
