With the return of the Great Bend High School Community Service Day fast approaching on Wednesday, April 22, the National Honor Society (NHS) is issuing a final call for local service project requests and community sponsorships.
Bringing back the event for the first time since 2019, organizers are moving quickly to finalize logistics. NHS Sponsor Luke Maneth noted that the goal is to have all projects vetted and student teams assigned by early April to ensure a seamless experience for both students and the community.
We Need Your Projects
Whether you are a local homeowner, a small business, or a non-profit organization, GBHS students are ready to help. This year, the program is emphasizing a wide range of tasks to accommodate different student skills:
· Outdoor Beautification: Raking leaves, picking up trash, and general yard work.
· Indoor Assistance: Filing, organizing, or light cleaning.
· Special Projects: Painting, recycling support, and grounds maintenance.
"We want to provide our nearly 900 students and staff with meaningful ways to say ‘thank you’ to the community that supports our scholarships and programs," said Maneth. "From filing paperwork to beautifying storefronts, no project is too small for us to consider."
Final Call for T-Shirt Sponsors
To equip students with the necessary supplies, NHS is seeking sponsorships for Community Service Day. Businesses that contribute will have their logo featured on the back of the official Community Service Day T-shirt, which will be worn by nearly 1,000 participants across the city on April 22.
