Native American presentation in Great Bend

The Barton County Historical Society’s Director will give a program about the Native American Graves and Repatriation Act and The Great Bend Aspect at 7 p.m., Monday, April 24 at the Barton County Historical Society, 85 S. Highway 281, Great Bend. Admission is free for members of the society and $5 for others wishing to attend the program. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the program will begin at 7 p.m., light refreshments are provided.

Richard Lartz has a Master of Arts in Public History from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee and has experience at museums in Wisconsin, Wyoming and Kansas that have a variety of Native American artifacts in their collections. The program will give an overview of NAGPRA, discuss a unique feature of The Great Bend Aspect, and consider potential issues in regards to NAGPRA guidelines.

The Barton County Historical Society is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and will begin additional summer hours in April, from 1-4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday.
