An investigation was conducted from the public right-of-way on the accessory structure at 1441 9th Street in Great Bend, a property owned by Thomas Pearson. The Great Bend City Council held a public hearing for the dangerous building Monday night.
Assistant City Administrator Logan Burns said the building official’s letter referenced multiple deficiencies.
"This was a gable garage," said Burns. "All the sheeting is missing on the south side. All the trusses fell to the south. The gable is laying on the ground. You'll see the siding is missing."
The roof of the structure on 9th Street has collapsed. The rafters and roof structure are also hanging into the alley.
The city council voted to set a date of Sept. 7 for the structure to be repaired or demolished before the city decides to tear it down.
