The Barton County Clerk's Office moves several thousand pieces of mail each year. With a lease for the office's current postage machine ending soon, Clerk Bev Schmeidler appeared before the Barton County Commission Tuesday morning to secure a new lease.

"The lease for our current postage machine ends in March of this year," she said. "We've had it for five years and this one is from Midwest Single Source. The one previous to that was from Pitney Bowes, so we reached out to both of those companies to get quotes."

Schmeidler reported the Pitney Bowes monthly quote was approximately $250 higher than that of Midwest Single Source. The board of commissioners approved a new lease at $435.07 a month. The clerk's office will continue to use its existing scale and postage computer.
