The owner of That One Groomer, Jessica DeCarolis, wrote the Great Bend City Administrator to request 15-minute parking signs to be presented in front of 1009 and 1011 Williams Street.
DeCarolis expressed trouble being able to provide consistent curbside parking for patrons because residents of nearby houses are parking in the stalls and leaving their vehicles there all day.
The city council approved the request as councilmember Jolene Biggs stated there
should be an effort to keep people from parking in certain spots all day.
"Say if you're working at the courthouse, there is a parking lot for people working at the courthouse," said Biggs. "Maybe some of those other Main Street properties should have some 15-minute parking if that's going to keep those people from parking all day in one spot."
The city administration and council did recognize the approval of this parking adjustment
could stir up more requests from downtown businesses for parking changes.
City
Administrator Kendal Francis said while a sign would be installed, marking the
15-minute parking stall, enforcement of the 15 minutes could be an issue, not
wanting to burden the police department with the task.
The 15-minute parking zone will be designated in the fourth stall north of 10th
Street on the west side of Williams Street. The parking stall will also benefit
First National Travel Agency.
