The city of Great Bend is once again looking for volunteers to help with holiday festivities. Community Coordinator Christina Hayes said there are two options with the Trail of Lights and skate shack at Jack Kilby Square. Dates are available from Nov. 26 through Dec. 23 for the Trail of Lights.
"It's a typical shift of 6-8 p.m. where you work in the little building on the south side of Brit Spaugh Park," Hayes said. "It's the entrance to the Trail of Lights. The job typically is handing out goodie bags, candy canes, taking donations for the lights, and greeting the drivers."
Volunteers also record tag information on vehicles so city staff can track where visitors are coming from. For safety reasons, at least two volunteers are needed for each session. Volunteers are also needed Thursday through Sunday at the skate shack outside the Barton County Courthouse. Those volunteers will rent out and return skates with various time slots still available.
"Those are options that really help the city and help us provide a really wonderful holiday season," said Hayes. "It's exciting to see how people get so into the holiday spirit here in Great Bend."
Anyone interested in volunteering can call city hall at (620) 793-4111, or email Hayes at chayes@greatbendks.net.
