For the Great Bend City Council, there is one contested race that will be decided in the election this fall. Incumbents Kevyn Soupiset, Davis Jimenez and Tina Mingenback are all running uncontested races. In Ward 1, incumbent Lindsey Krom-Craven has a challenger in Gary Parr.

Parr virtually attended last week’s Candidate Forum hosted at the Great Bend Senior Center by the local League of Women Voters. Parr said as a lifelong citizen of Great Bend, he felt it was his duty to keep his finger on the pulse on what is going on in the community.

"The top priorities for our city should be our streets, infrastructure, our school district and most of all our tax-paying citizens," said Parr. "With the money being spent, a large number of us are asking the questions why, where and how."

Krom-Craven did not attend the forum but did have written statements read that evening. She has served on the council since being appointed to the board in March 2020.

"I want to see a priority to balance the efforts to grow our town and making what we have better," Krom-Craven said in a statement read at the forum. "People chose smaller towns knowing there may not be the newest and greatest, but they expect to have a great feeling about where they live."
