Lady Panther tennis team places third in opener

The Great Bend High School tennis team officially opened the 2022 fall sports season last Thursday in Lyons. The Lady Panthers scored 27 points for third place. Pratt won the meet with 39 points, followed by Chaparral with 37 points.

Playing at No. 1 singles, Kaylin Wahlmeier opened with a 6-1 win over Lyons before falling to Pratt 6-2. Wahlmeier lost her final match to Nickerson 6-3.

Samantha Mayers and Taylor Lashley posted a 2-1 record at No. 1 doubles. After a 6-2 win over Lyons, the pair dropped its next match against Pratt 6-1. The girls finished the day with a 6-2 win against Chaparral.

Clarise Snapp finished third in the No. 2 singles bracket with a 2-2 record. She opened with a 6-4 win over Chaparral before losses to Pratt and Ashland. Snapp closed out the day with a 6-5 win over Nickerson, falling to third place with the head-to-head loss against Ashland.

After a 6-3 loss at No. 2 doubles, Danica Strickland and Kylie McCormick closed the tournament strong to finish at 2-1. They took down Pratt 6-4, and handed Nickerson a 6-3 defeat.

Competition picks up Tuesday as the Lady Panthers head to McPherson.
