Paul J. Herrman, 101 years of age, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2023, at Locust Grove Village, La Crosse, Kansas.
Paul was born Sepember 8, 1921, in La Crosse, Kansas, the son of Jacob and Mary (Heronema) Herrman. He was a longtime resident of Rush County, Kansas. A 1940 graduate of La Crosse High School, La Crosse, Kansas, he was a farmer and oil field mechanic for Phillips 66 before his retirement.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Liebenthal, Kansas, Knights Of Columbus Council #2340, and the Virgil C. Dechant 4th Degree Assembly #3550, La Crosse, Kansas. He was a member of VFW Post 3147, and American Legion Post 33, both of La Crosse, Kansas. Paul was a former National Vice President of OCAW (Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers).
He was a World War II United States Army veteran.
On July 23, 1946, he married Angeline “Angie” Dreher in Schoenchen, Kansas. She preceded him in death June 10, 2010.
Survivors include: five sons, Joe Herrman (Deb), La Crosse, Kansas, Leo Herrman (Vicki), La Crosse, Kansas, Jim Herrman (Marie), Rose Hill, Kansas, Carl Herrman (Lorna), La Crosse, Kansas, and Thomas Herrman, La Crosse, Kansas; two daughters, Marie Holopirek (Rollie), La Crosse, Kansas, and Ruth Schroter (Jon), La Crosse, Kansas; one son in law, Wesley Shannon (Sherleen), Ellis, Kansas; 33 grandchildren; 71 great grandchildren; 27 great great grandchildren; one brother, Ralph Herrman, Ames, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one daughter, Carolyn (Herrman) Shannon; four grandchildren; three brothers, Father Gilbert P. Herrman, Leonard Herrman, and Edward Herrman; and seven sisters, Isabel Basgall, Ruth Risser, Esther Boxler, Irene Raniszewski, Pauline Sutton, Abbie Rupp, and Edna Mehl.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 18, 2023, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas. A vigil service and rosary will be at 7:00 P.M.
Church visitation will be Wednesday, July 19, 2023, from 1:00 P.M. to 1:50 P.M. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Liebenthal, Kansas.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Liebenthal, Kansas, with Father Stephen Dabanka and Father Benjamin Martin officiating. Interment with military honors by the Kansas Army National Guard, and the Bazine and La Crosse American Legion Posts will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Liebenthal, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers or plants, the family requests memorials to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Liebenthal, Kansas, or Locust Grove Village, La Crosse, Kansas.
