The No. 7 Barton Community College men's soccer team opened the 2026 campaign on the winning side Friday afternoon, using a goal in each half to secure a 2-0 victory over North Iowa Area Community College at the Cougar Soccer Complex.

The victory marks the 12th straight season-opening win for the Cougars, while the Trojans begin their campaign 0-1. Barton faces a quick turnaround, returning to the Cougar Soccer Complex Saturday for a much-anticipated early season top-10 showdown against No. 9 Otero College with kickoff at 3:00 p.m.

Barton wasted little time breaking through as freshman Aidan Dunneneeded just 6:38 to record his first collegiate goal. Luca Madiai gained possession at the near corner before driving along the end line and slipping a thru ball into the six-yard box, where Dunne connected on a right-footed strike to the far post for the 1-0 advantage.

Despite being unable to increase the advantage over the final 33 minutes, the Cougars controlled much of the possession, generating a 10-1 advantage in shots while placing five attempts on frame to carry the 1-0 lead into the halftime break.

Barton sustained the tempo into the second half before finally adding the insurance tally in the 75th minute. Kotaro Kimura's far-side cross found Rafael Calmon near the left side of the six-yard box, with the returning sophomore directing a header to the far post for his 10th career goal and a 2-0 Cougar advantage.

Offensively, Barton finished the afternoon with a commanding 17-1 shot advantage, placing 12 attempts on frame while keeping the Trojans without a shot on frame. Sophomore goalkeeper Pedro Lisboa went the distance between the pipes to secure the season-opening clean sheet and improve to 1-0-0 on the year.
