The nation's 2nd ranked Barton Community College women's track and field team competed this past weekend in less than ideal weather conditions at the John Jacobs Invitational hosted by the University of Oklahoma in Norman.
In the two-day meet, the Cougars added another national qualifier to its list as Kay-Lagay Clarke punched her third event ticket. Having previously qualified in the 110m hurdles and long jump, Clarke added the triple jump Saturday in her first time competing in the event outdoors by winning the event with a mark of 11.85m (38-10.50). Ahniesha Presulme placed second, coming up short of qualifying standard on a 11.20m (36-09.00) mark.
Although not reaching the national berth time, Karina Herrera withstood the conditions to post her second straight improvement in the 1500m by clocking a personal best 5:35.28 in finishing 26th in the event.
Barton stays in-state for its next meet competing April 29nd in Lawrence at the Rock Chalk Classic hosted by the University of Kansas.
