A youthful offensive attack made an immediate impact Friday afternoon as six different freshmen lit the lamp in powering the Barton Community College women's soccer team to an 11-0 season-opening victory over North Iowa Area Community College at the Cougar Soccer Complex.
The seventh straight season-opening victory moves the Cougars to 1-0 on the year, while the Trojans open their 2026 campaign at 0-1. Barton will have a day of preparation before hitting the road for the first time this season, traveling to Neosho County for a 3:00 p.m. kickoff Sunday afternoon.
The Cougars wasted little time taking control as Ella Swift became the first of six freshmen to record their first collegiate goals, scoring in the 13th minute before Mikka Kolle followed with her first collegiate twine finder just over six minutes later, beginning a seven-goal opening-half frenzy.
The freshman barrage of goals continued with Noline Baker and Ana Luiza Gori accounting for five of the next six tallies. Gori did her damage entirely in the opening half, completing her hat trick with three goals over a 15:50 span, while Karina Pineda's first collegiate marker in the 40th minute sent Barton into the break holding a commanding 7-0 advantage.
Baker added two more after the break, finding the net just 1:06 into second-half play before completing her hat trick in the 58th minute. Ana Clara Paltanin became the sixth freshman to net her first collegiate goal in the 61st minute before Swift, who opened the scoring, capped the running tally with her second of the afternoon three minutes later.
Barton controlled the action from start to finish, outshooting the Trojans 40-0 with 23 attempts placed on frame. The Cougars distributed 15 assists on their 11 tallies, while Lucie Gillig and Graciela Medina split time between the pipes in combining for the season-opening clean sheet.
