The Barton track and field program went split-squad this weekend competing in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, at the Crimson Tide Invitational with a smaller group staying closer to home at the K.T. Woodman Classic in Wichita.
In addition to just about every athlete posting a season and/or personal best throughout the weekend, the women compiled eleven national qualifying performances with the men adding nine to their list.
Completing their first, near full-squad outdoor meet of the season, the tuned-up Cougars head to Waco, Texas, for next weekend's Michael Johnson Invite held at Baylor University's Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium.
Down south at the Crimson Tide, the Barton women had three first placings among their seven finishes in the Top-5, led by sophomore standout Keliza Smith playing a part in two of the Cougars' victories.
Individually, Smith took on the 400m for the first time in her collegiate outdoor career to better the 46-athlete, four-year dominated field with a current NJCAA leading 52.91 in posting the program's 5th fastest ever time.
As a baton passer, Smith helped the Cougars' 4x100m relay squad of Kayda Austin, Kennidra Spigner, and Takelia Williams vault to the top of the NJCAA leaders with a 44.70 time in additionally ranking 9th on the program all-time list.
Smith also joined 4x400m relay members Shone Walters, Narissa McPherson, and Natasha Fox for a meet's 4th best time of 3:41.44 to rank a nation's third best 2025 time.
Ivanilda Semedo captured the women's other first placing delivering a discus winning 51.40m (168-08) mark.
Other notable performances included Kayda Austin's 200m runner-up in 23.43, just .02 seconds off the program top ten list, as was Shone Walters' 400m time of 2:09.94 in placing 9th overall.
On the men's side, the Cougars had six Top-5 finishes led by the pair of titles from Trevon Hamer including winning the triple jump at 16.30m (53-05.75) in moving up from 9th to 6th in Barton history and adding a fifth place in the 100m on a personal best, nationally qualifying time of 10.38.
A member of the Cougars' winning 4x100m relay team securing Barton's sweep in the event, Hamer joined with Aragorn Straker, Joshua Mascall, and Wanyae Belle to beat the field by nearly a half second in clocking a program 8th best ever time of 39.47.
Like the women, the men were also solid in the 4x400m relay with Mascall and Belle joined by Simeon Adams and Perrion Williams in clocking a 3:10.50 to finish fourth overall.
Belle and Straker battled it out in the 200m on personal best efforts, Belle crossing 3rd in 20.74 while Straker was an eye-blink behind in 4th at 20.77.
In Wichita at the K.T. Woodman, the Cougars sent six athletes to compete as all posted personal bests. Kamya Gould led in the 100m with a 12.23, Destany Johnson in the 200m at 26.06, Widlife Vermilus's 15.71 100m Hurdle time, and Alissandra Jackson in the 400m (1:02.75) and 1500m (5:11.40).
