14th ranked Barton women's golf finish runner-up in conference opener

The 14th ranked Barton Community College women's golf team placed runner-up in the conference opener this past Saturday at Salina's Municipal Golf Course.

Barton was consistent in their rounds with a Friday opening 321 followed by a closing 322 for an 83-over 643, 37 strokes behind 8th ranked Dodge City Community College's 27-over 606 and 98 strokes ahead of 3rd place 35th ranked Fort Scott Community College's 181-over 741.

The Cougars were led by Butpapaporn Sukterm's runner-up placing of a 9-over 149 behind 74-75 rounds as Dodge City's Gaemphuang Ketrahong won the title breaking away from a first round tie with a closing 2-under 68 for the seven stroke victory.

Valentina Leyva finished in a tie for 5th with 79-78 rounds for a 17-over 157 while Andrea Peraza placed 10th on 86-82 cards for a 28-over 168.

One stroke back in 11th place was Frida Medellin following 82-87 rounds for a 29-over 169. Alayna Crosby rounded out the Cougar entries of the 21-competitor field with a 14th placing bouncing back from Friday's 99 round with a ten stroke improvement 89 for a combined 48-over 188.

The conference teams reunite in Garden City on Friday, April 12, for the KJCCC's Meet No. 2 taking place for two rounds at Buffalo Dunes Golf Course.

19th ranked Barton men's golf places fourth in conference opener

The 19th ranked Barton Community College men's golf team began its spring season last Monday finishing fourth in the shortened one-day Jayhawk Tournament No. 1 held at Manhattan's Colbert Hills Golf Course.

The Cougars carded a 315 in Monday's morning round before climbing a spot into fourth with a 306 in what would be the final round due to inclement weather moving in forcing the cancellation of Tuesday's competition.

Accumulating a 45-over 621, Barton was seventeen strokes behind 22nd ranked Garden City and nine strokes ahead of Hesston College's fifth placing. Posting a winning 1-over 577, 5th ranked Hutchinson edged out 8th ranked Dodge City's 580 total.

Axel Bolander led the Cougars with a 1-over 145 by moving up eight spots following a 75 card to a final tie for 4th with a 2-under 70 in posting the second round's third best score.

Worathan Thammachokecharoen placed 17th overall with a 77-78 rounds for an 11-over 155.

Just missing the 55-man field's top twenty-five, Thantup Saengvut placed 26th with 80-79 rounds for a 15-over 159, one stroke back was Martin Chevallier in 28th following 83-77 rounds for a 16-over 160, with Anthony Arriola in 29th at 18-over with 83-79 cards for a combined 162.

Competing as an individual, Keegan O'Shea finished 42nd at 26-over 170 by carding 88-82 rounds as Easton Fitzpatrick finished in 51st on 94-90 rounds for a 40-over 184.

Kaleb Lambert began the day with an 83 but had to withdraw in the afternoon due to sickness leaving Barton's team score in the hands of a four-man crew.

The Cougars get back to the links on Monday, April 15th, traveling to Wichita's Crestview Country Club for a scheduled 54 holes of conference action beginning at 8:00 a.m. for two rounds followed by Tuesday's final round also set for an 8:00 a.m. start.
