On Saturday, Feb. 10, at approximately 11:38 p.m., officers with the Great Bend Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a grey Ford Focus in the 400 block of Barton Dr. in Great Bend for a traffic violation.
After officers made contact with the driver, Rene Benitez, age 54, it was learned that he did not have a valid driver's license. Benitez was subsequently arrested. Benitez was transported to the Barton County Jail and while being booked into the jail, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were discovered in his possession.
Benitez was booked in lieu of bond for traffic contraband in correction facility, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with no driver's license. Benitez is being held in lieu of a $50,000 bond.
