Week 5 of college football brings suspense as No. 8 Florida, No. 14 Iowa, and No. 16 Mississippi State aim to maintain their momentum. Each team faces a ranked opponent. Florida, after defeating Mississippi, visits No. 25 Missouri. The last three games between these teams have been close. Iowa, fresh from a win over Michigan, hosts No. 5 Ohio State. Mississippi State faces No. 7 Alabama. Heisman hopefuls, including Florida's Jadan Baugh and Ohio State's Jeremiah Smith, add intrigue.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Yankees captain Aaron Judge was left off the roster for New York’s AL Division Series against the Tampa Bay Rays while he tries to work his way back from a calf injury. A three-time AL MVP, Judge hasn’t played since Sept. 16. Giancarlo Stanton, who hasn’t played since April 24 because of strained calf muscles in both legs, remained on the 26-man roster. Stanton was active for the Wild Card Series sweep of Boston but didn’t get in the games, which both turned into blowouts. Judge was sidelined by a fractured rib from May 31 to Sept. 8 and played in just seven games before straining his right calf.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — The NFL has suspended San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York for six games following his arrest earlier this year in a prostitution sting in Ohio. The league announced that York also was fined $500,000 for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. York has not attended any games or league meetings so far this season and was credited with three games served. He is eligible to return on Oct. 20, following the team’s game the previous night against Washington.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Shohei Ohtani isn't sure about the extent of his injuries that kept him off the mound after the All-Star break and landed him on the injured list recently. He plans to address them in the offseason. Ohtani says he's feeling better going into the National League Division Series opener against Atlanta on Saturday. The Braves' rotation is strained and they'll likely add some pitchers to their NLDS roster after ruling out starters Martín Pérez and Bryce Elder. Game 1 will be played during the day in Los Angeles, which is under an extreme heat warning. Saturday's high temperature is forecast to hit 100 degrees. The average high for early October is 81 degrees.

NAGOYA, Japan (AP) — South Korean golfer Tom Kim got what he came for by winning men’s singles at the Asian Games: a gold medal and an exemption from military service back home. He shot a 6-under 64 in Saturday’s final round for a four-day total of 18-under 262. Most able-bodied men in South Korea must serve about 18 months in uniform, but a medal of any color at the Olympics — or gold in the Asian Games — provides an out. However, South Korea failed to win the team competition. That means that S.H. Kim, who played on the team with Tom Kim, did not get the exemption.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Gabby Williams scored 19 points and hit a go-ahead 17-footer with 1:17 remaining, and the Golden State Valkyries won a late replay review to finish a rally from 16 points down and beat the Dallas Wings 77-73 in a wild deciding Game 3 of their first-round WNBA playoff series. With 13.1 seconds left and Golden State leading by one, Williams jumped back inbounds to corral her own miss on a play that was originally ruled Dallas’ ball, but Valkyries coach Natalie Nakase successfully challenged the call. Williams scored all but two of her points after halftime. Arike Ogunbowale led Dallas with 30 points.

CBS Sports and Tony Romo have officially parted ways one month after the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback pleaded no contest to charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Romo had been on leave since his July 23 arrest in Wisconsin. He had been the lead game analyst for CBS’ NFL coverage since 2017. CBS Sports announced Romo's exit in a statement that said they had mutually agreed to part ways. Romo was arrested following a traffic stop as he was driving south on Interstate 43 in Wisconsin.

Arizona State has asked a former chief justice of the Arizona Supreme Court to lead an independent review of the collapse of hockey player Matthew Mayich during an outdoor workout in August. The school said Scott Bales will review Arizona State’s findings and information provided by attorneys representing the Mayich family and hockey team members, as well as by law enforcement. The 21-year-old Mayich collapsed during a workout on the first day the NCAA allows official activities. He suffered from exertional heat stroke that reduced flow of oxygen to his brain and is unlikely to recover, according to family attorney Rob Carey.

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (AP) — Pittsburgh Penguins forward Andrei Kuzmenko is changing his jersey number to 62 to honor his father Alexander, who died in a bear attack in Russia last week at age 62. Kuzmenko has returned to practice with the Penguins after attending his father's funeral in Moscow. The 30-year-old signed a one-year, $5 million contract with Pittsburgh over the summer. He explained that his father was attacked by a bear while fishing in Siberia. Kuzmenko described his father's death as a "big shock." Kuzmenko, who used to wear No. 10, also noted that his mother was born in 1962.

Eight teams remain in the hunt for a World Series title. The Atlanta Braves knocked off the Philadelphia Phillies for a 6-2 win in Game 3 of their best-of-three Wild Card Series on Thursday night, and they’ll face the two-time defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers in the best-of-five Division Series that begins on Saturday. The other NL matchup is the San Diego Padres vs. the Milwaukee Brewers, who won a franchise-record 103 games this season. The AL bracket features two series between division rivals, including the New York Yankees vs. Tampa Bay Rays and Chicago White Sox vs. Cleveland Guardians
