The Great Bend City Council was scheduled to conduct a work session Monday to discuss the future of a pair of outdoor festivals and Great Bend Airfest. How Great Bend moves forward with the big events will wait until later this month as City Administrator Logan Burns noted the postponement of the work session.
"With June Jaunt, Party in the Park and Airfest...we'll be moving that work session to January 20 just because we have some sick staff out and with the road conditions right now," said Burns.
The work session will now follow the meeting on Jan. 20 at City Hall.
Great Bend has seen declining numbers attend Party in the Park and June Jaunt. While a suggestion of cancelling June Jaunt has been tossed around, no decision has been made. Both of the summer festivals bring live music, games, food vendors and entertainment.
Great Bend Airfest started in 2012 and is hosted every three years with multiple airshows from historic warbirds and other planes of interest. With poor weather at this past September’s event, there were less than 5,000 patrons in attendance. The 2021 Airfest had just under 9,000 attend.
