The Barton Community College men's golf team earned a third-place finish at the Central Kansas Classic held at McPherson's Turkey Creek Golf Course.
Finishing at 34-over 874, the Cougars opened Monday with steady rounds of 285 (+5) and 287 (+7) before a short night and return bus ride back produced a 302 (+22) but hold steady by thirteen strokes in the team placings.
Iowa Western captured the team title at 9-over 849, and nine shots clear of runner-up Dodge City Community College's 18-over 858.
Leading the Cougars in the 65-man field were Matteu Cauvin-Piacentini and Ted Gemzell in sharing 6th place at 5-over 215. Cauvin-Piacentini opened with Barton's low round of the tournament at 2-under 68 before slipping three slots on the leaderboard with 71 and 76 cards. Gemzell's opening day of 71-75 left the sophomore outside the top ten but fired a closing round 1-under 69, in climbing sixth spots into the tie.
Close behind was Phattarapol Ongla, tying for 12th at 8-over 218, highlighted by firing a 1-under 69 in between 72 and 77 rounds.
Cooper Lucke rounded out the team entries in 44th place at 27-over 237, posting 77-80 rounds on Monday before carding another 80. Wintakorn Suwanmuang, who was 12th after Monday's 74 and 72 cards, was unable to compete on Tuesday forcing Barton to count just four scores in the final round
Talon Reynolds climbed up eight spots in the final day to lead the Cougars' individual entries, following 76 and 77 rounds with a 2-over 72 for a tie for 27th at 15-over, 225.
One stroke behind, Landon Timmermeyer tied for 29th with a 16-over 226 with consistent 77-73-76 cards as Kobey Jackson placed 33rd and two strokes back on 74-76-78 rounds for an 18-over 228.
