Dr. Jackie Corbett has been one of the Great Bend Brit Spaugh Zoo veterinarians for several decades and has a specialized skill set for the exotic animals.
Animal Medical Center is purchasing Dr. Mike Malone’s clinic and will be keeping Corbett as the zoo veterinarian with the addition of Dr. Ty Brunswig. Corbett and zoo staff have a close working relationship, and she has the knowledge of the individual animals and their needs. Brunswig has assisted with procedures at the zoo in the past.
Last December, the Great Bend City Council approved a one-year contract with Malone’s clinic, knowing he was contemplating retirement. That contract included a monthly rate of $1,800 and an hourly rate of $180. Total services were not to exceed $116,000.
The city council will be presented a motion at the Monday, April 21 meeting to approve a three-year contract with Animal Medical Center.
