Following declining attendance numbers at the 13th annual June Jaunt this past summer, City of Great Bend officials and the Convention and Visitors Bureau Board discussed possible changes for Great Bend’s summer festivals. One of those changes included possibly ending the outdoor festival in June.
Last week, City Administrator Logan Burns said the city council will discuss the future of both June Jaunt and the August festival, Party in the Park.
"The June Jaunt and Party in the Park work session...we'll be looking to have the work session for those events at our first meeting in January," said Burns. "We've met with vendors, volunteers and staff last week going through the pros and cons. We'll have some recommendations for the council."
June Jaunt has provided downtown Great Bend with live music, games, food vendors and entertainment on the first weekend in June.
The CVB Board discussed the possibility of no longer conducting June Jaunt and instead reverting resources to bolster the Party in the Park festival.
The discussion Jan. 6 will be conducted in a work session for the city council with no action taken.
