Larned Police Chief Duft retiring, Hearn named interim

The City of Larned announces the upcoming retirement of Police Chief Lance Duft, who will conclude his distinguished career in public service on June 16, 2025, after 34 years of dedicated service in law enforcement.

Chief Duft has served as Larned’s Chief of Police since 2023, and his leadership has been instrumental in advancing the professionalism, community engagement, and operational effectiveness of the Larned Police Department. Throughout his career, Chief Duft has championed interagency cooperation, new officer recruitment and training, and public safety technology.

“Chief Duft has been a respected leader, not only within the department but across our entire community,” said City Manager Brad Eilts. “His commitment to public safety, integrity, and the citizens of Larned will leave a lasting legacy. We thank him for his outstanding service and wish him all the best in retirement.”

Sargent TJ Hearn will serve as both the Interim Police Chief and the Interim Fire Chief. Further announcements regarding the transition will be shared as they become available.
