While spring temperatures are just becoming the normal now in Central Kansas, it will not be too long before summer days are here. With the turn in weather, mosquitos start to make their return.
Like many cities, Great Bend has a combative approach to keep the mosquito population in check with spraying routines. Great Bend City Administrator Brandon Anderson said it is time to prepare for the upcoming mosquito season.
"The mosquito foggers are off getting calibrated," said Anderson. "We'll have mosquitos again so we're getting those calibrated and ready to go for the season."
Last year, Great Bend used two different chemicals. One chemical kills the mosquitos and the other sterilizes. One side of town gets the sterilizing chemical and the other gets the one that kills the insects. The following week, the city switches.
