Ellinwood High School proudly announces that senior volleyball standout Regan Widener (#5) has officially signed her national letter of commitment to continue her volleyball career at Fort Hays State University beginning next fall.

Widener, a four-year starter at right side, has been instrumental in Ellinwood’s recent surge as one of the premier volleyball programs in Class 2A. Known for her power, consistency, and competitive leadership, she helped guide the Eagles to an undefeated 2025 2A State Championship—the first in program history—and a 2024 4th Place State Finish.

Throughout her career, Widener contributed to:

• 4 Central Prairie League (CPL) Tournament Championships with an undefeated 66–0 league record

• 2024 & 2025 Sub-State Championships

• 2025 2A State Championship

• 2024 & 2025 2A All-State Tournament Team selections

• 2025 First Team Unanimous CPL selection and 2024 First Team CPL

• 2023 CPL Honorable Mention

Her senior season included 340 kills, a .431 hitting percentage, 45 aces, and 45 total blocks. Over her four-year career, Widener amassed 911 kills (3rd all-time in EHS history), a .354 hitting percentage, 131 aces, and 165 blocks. She was named KVA First Team 2A All-State and earned one of the state’s highest honors: KVA 2A Player of the Year.

Ellinwood Head Volleyball Coach Greg Maxwell praised Widener’s growth and impact on the program:

“Regan has had an excellent career for Ellinwood Volleyball. She has been a 4-year impact player showing significant growth each season with greater production and contributions on and off the court. Her Senior year she reached the pinnacle of the sport by helping lead her team to the 2A State Championship and being named the KVA 2A Player of the Year. This team accomplishment and individual honor are a perfect representation of the phenomenal athlete and teammate Regan has been for this team. We are all very proud of her and wish her the best in her college career.”

Widener expressed gratitude for her time in Ellinwood and excitement for her future at Fort Hays State University:

“I grew up learning to love the sport of volleyball in Ellinwood’s gym. I am incredibly grateful for everything the Ellinwood volleyball program has given me, along with amazing support from the school system and community. God has blessed me with the opportunity to continue my volleyball career at Fort Hays State University, where I will be majoring in Health and Human Performance.”

Widener will join the Fort Hays State Tigers Volleyball Program in fall 2026, bringing a championship mindset and a strong competitive foundation to their roster.
