Earlier this month, Barton County announced that tax credits were received as the final step in the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) project at the Barton County Courthouse. On Tuesday, the Barton County Commission approved transferring the tax credits proceeds to the Capital Improvement fund.
County Administrator Matt Patzner said change orders bumped the renovation cost to $5.182 million, but the tax credits allowed the county to come in $358,000 under the original bid of $4.182 million.
"On November 26, the Commission awarded the Kansas Rehabilitation Tax Credits bid to Clocktower Tax Credits for the entire amount of $1,463,440," said Patzner.
The county received approximately 93 cents on the dollar for the credits, meaning $1,358,218.66 was deposited back into the Capital Improvement fund.
The renovation also included new plumbing, paint, carpet, and moving the treasurer's office from the second floor to the first floor for convenience to the public.
