The Barton County Landfill accepted quotes to purchase 25,000 gallons of diesel fuel for their operations. The quote provides a fuel price for one year beginning June 1 or when the 25,000 gallon mark is exceeded, whichever one comes first.

Barton County Commissioner Kirby Krier asked Interim Solid Waste Director Jennifer Hamby Wednesday if there was any worry of not using 25,000 gallons in a year.

"What happens if we don't use all 25,000 gallons?" asked Krier.

"I did not ask that," replied Hamby.

"That won't be a problem," added Krier. "At $3.79, there will be a lot of people looking to buy that."

The Great Bend Co-op provided the only bid at $3.79 per gallon.

Hamby said the landfill has tanks that can hold up to 1,000 gallons. The co-op generally comes out to the landfill every other week to top off the tank.
