The first day of school for USD 428 in Great Bend is Aug. 14. Holy Family School also begins classes on Aug. 14 and Central Kansas Christian Academy starts the following day on Aug. 15.
With children and teachers heading back to the classroom, Great Bend Police Chief Steve Haulmark said this is a reminder that school zones will be reappearing.
"We'll be more visible and doing directed traffic enforcement in school zones the next couple of weeks," said Haulmark. "We want to remind folks that school is back in session and pay attention."
Haulmark said the School Resource Officers (SRO) were in training earlier this month and will return to the schools. The SRO works in the school setting for safety and crime prevention.
