During this month’s Barton Community College Board of Trustees study session, Barton Vice President of Administration Mark Dean said the revenue statement looks good for the college as the new calendar year begins. Revenue as of Dec. 31, 2024 was up more than $1.9 million compared to the same time the year prior. Expenditures are also higher than last year, by approximately $800,000.
With an increase in tuition, Dean said the accounts receivable line normally jumps up too. Barton’s business office personnel will be the first one to attempt to collect outstanding bills.
"If it is an individual that lives within the State of Kansas, it will go to the Kansas Setoff which is with the state," said Dean. "That is going to be the least expensive option and they have a fairly good track record. They can go after wages, gambling earnings and federal and state income tax. We have pretty good success with them."
At the end of December, Barton showed tuition revenue over $5.1 million compared to $4.4 million from the year before.
