The sales tax within the city limits of Russell increased by .75-percent on April 1st. This increase was approved by voters in last November’s General Election for the purpose of replacing water utility infrastructure and development of new water sources.

The breakdown of the sales tax charged in Russell looks like this:

6.5% - State
2% - County
 0.75% - City

The new sales tax rate for retailers within city limits is 9.25%, while the rate for Russell County remains 8.5%.

The .75-percent sales tax increase will be dedicated to building a water reserve fund and developing water sources and infrastructure at the R9 Ranch in Edwards County, which it co-owns with the City of Hays.

The sales tax increase passed with nearly 65% of the vote in favor of the initiative.
