An agenda item for the Tuesday, Feb. 20 Great Bend City Council meeting will include a discussion with Acciona Energy. Representative Adam Stratton will address the governing body about placing a solar farm northeast of Great Bend.
The proposed location includes property within three miles of Great Bend. City Administrator Brandon Anderson said earlier this month that the city will need to develop regulations pertaining to solar energy.
A moratorium on commercial solar development in the county has been extended through March 31 to give the Planning Commission time to craft solar regulations. While landowners have already leased ground to Acciona, the Planning Commission has hesitation allowing the development, wanting to protect the Cheyenne Bottoms wetlands nearby.
More discussion on the solar farm will occur Feb. 22 during a public hearing at Barton Community College at 9 a.m.
Tuesday’s Great Bend City Council meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.
