K-State Research and Extension and the Cottonwood District are hosting a regional Crop Pest Management School at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 723 Main Street in Great Bend on Thursday, December 9. It will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The school is to aid producers, consultants and commercial applicators in identifying and managing crop disease, insect and weed problems. CEU’s for commercial applicators of 7 hours for the 1A certification along with the 1 core hour will be offered. Certified Crop Advisor Credits will also be available.
Several K-State Research & Extension specialists will be presenting. Topics being covered are: a research update on liquid applications; getting the most from your herbicide applications; common weeds - identification and characteristics; identifying and controlling common corn insects; corn diseases – including stalk rots, bacterial leaf streak and Goss’s Wilt; weed research update; and combatting wheat diseases.
Cost to attend is $50, if registered by December 1. After Dec. 1, cost is $75 to pre-register or at the door. Registration is requested on-line at www.sunflower.ksu.edu/agronomy
