If you like to go to garage sales and you want to help the Golden Belt Humane Society, you can do both on Friday and Saturday. A gigantic garage sale is being held at the Great Bend Events Center to benefit the Humane Society.

Thousands of items have been donated. They include furniture, electronics, housewares, kitchenware, tools, camping equipment and holiday decor.

Humane Society Director Heather Acheson says there will be plenty of good deals.

"There are some items that we are going to be marking because they are new and boxed. They're high-dollar items.” Acheson noted. “But everything else is ‘make us a deal that we can’t refuse,’ and just remember, it’s all for the animals. It’s a benefit. It’s to benefit the shelter of pets.”

The Golden Belt Humane Society is located south of Great Bend on U.S. Highway 281. Acheson says the proceeds from the garage sale fundraiser will be put to good use.

"The money is used for the shelter pets, so spay, neuters, any kind of special surgeries, any kind of special other services, medications, x-rays, grooming. ” Acheson explained. “Heartworm treatments, we’ve had at least three of those this year. Also too, some supplies and equipment needed for the staff to do their jobs.”

The garage sale will be open from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 29 and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30 at the Events Center.
