Great Bend Post Sports
The University of Kansas may not be associated with this year's Rim Rock Cross Country Classic outside Lawrence, but several of the region's top runners still competed in the event Saturday, which was hosted by Lawrence Free State High School.
Salina Central junior Kaylie Shultz won the gold race by 32 seconds in 17:52. Great Bend's runners competed in the crimson race. Christ Prep took the top-two spots with a pair of runners under 20 minutes. Lady Panther freshman Decorah Schroeter made her Rim Rock debut in third place in 20:09.22, 23 seconds behind the silver. Freshman Sydney Stein made the top-10 as well in 20:39.82, less than a second out of ninth place.
Junior Bella Long placed 19th overall in 21:02.27. Sophomore Sydney James ran 151st in 25:56.90, and freshman Makenzie Gwin placed 154th in 26:19.27.
Kapaun senior Daniel Enriquez won the boys' gold race by less than two seconds in 15:26.87. Great Bend again ran in the Crimson won, won by Goddard-Eisenhower senior Owen Dent by three seconds in 16:51. Panther sophomore Brogan Lashley ran 18th overall in 17:49.45, followed by senior Tavon Stroup in 21st in 17:54.94, just half a second behind a top-20 finish.
Sophomore Isaac Aldana placed 64th in 18:58.23, and sophomore Noah Kaiser ran 70th in 19:04.86. Junior Parker Coleman finished 103rd in 19:34.28.
