The Central Plains Oilers 1-0 in the playoffs, and while they had to go on a three-hour road trip in week 9, they defeated their opponent, Stanton County, 52-0 in a lopsided contest. Head coach of the Oilers JD Johnson is a big believer in winning by bigger the tougher and stronger team, something he says the team has bought into as a program the last several years.
"That's one thing they've really improved on the last few years. Because it's always been one of those things where you want to be the most physical team on the field but you can't teach that.
"I mean it's just one of those things that a kid either has it or they don't but I feel like as these kids have grown over the last couple years matured, grown in the weight room feel like they've gotten that comments they've began to grow as athletes and just gotten a lot more confident and able to match teams with that physicality."
Central Plains is on the road once again in week 10, taking on the top-ranked team in 8-man D1, Lincoln.
