A good camper knows the ins and outs of a campfire. An even better camper knows how to cook a hot dog three ways in the wild. On Aug. 19, the Kansas Wetlands Education Center will teach young campers how to up their cooking game as part of the WILD program. Educator Mandy Kern said Leonore Enfield will present the class from 5-7 p.m.

"I'll be facilitating it, but the actual leader of the activity will be the State WILD coordinator," Kern said. "She's from the Kansas Association of Conservation and Environmental Education, so she's going to be bringing all the equipment but I'm pretty sure it's going to be as hands-on as possible."

Campers can learn how to properly use a campfire, Dutch oven, and a camp stove. The event is free but pre-registration is required so staff can have the correct amount of supplies on hand.

WILD is a monthly program geared toward school-aged kids and their families. The goal is to get kids off of screens and into nature. Call (877)-243-9268 or email amkern2@fhsu.edu with questions or to pre-register.
