Following a signed bill by Kansas Governor Laura Kelly this past May,
counties now have the authority to allow the sale of alcohol and cereal malt
beverages before noon on Sundays. Barton County will propose a resolution to
extend the times for Sunday sales within the unincorporated areas of the county
at their upcoming meeting on Monday, June 21.
Barton County must modify an existing resolution to authorize Sunday sales for
retail liquor stores between the hours of 9 a.m. and 11 p.m.
Previously, liquor stores could not open Sunday sales until 12 p.m. and were
forced to close at 8 p.m. The resolution will move the Sunday hours to match
the rest of the week’s operating times.
The resolution is subject to a 60-day waiting period during which a petition
for an election can be filed.
The Monday Barton County Commission meeting begins at 9 a.m.
inside the Courthouse in Great Bend.
