Suspect charged for fatal shooting in Russell

TOPEKA— A western Kansas man arrested in connection with a deadly shooting in Russell on April 24, is facing charges of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder, according to the Kansas Attorney General’s Office.

The Russell Police Department responded after a citizen called 911 to report a shooting in the 800 block of East Second Street in Russell, according to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.

At the scene, first responders found 49-year-old Deborah Torres of Russell with apparent gunshot wounds. Her husband, 49-year-old Robert Torres of Russell, was inside their home and was deceased from gunshot wounds.

Robert James “Bobby” Torres, 33, is being held in Russell County on a $1 million bond. 

Fantasy Graphics Tattoo Studio of Hays announced on Facebook April 25, the death of tattoo artist Robert Torres. The post also said his wife, Debbie, had been hospitalized.

Robert and Debbie’s niece, Crystal Damm, created a GoFundMe stating Debbie is expected to make a full recovery. As of May 5, the fundraiser had raised more than $10,700 to help cover funeral and medical expenses.

The GoFundMe said, "Robert touched so many lives. He was the light in every room he entered and always made sure to make everybody laugh. He dedicated his life to supporting his family in every way possible."
