USD 428 is pleased to announce Karl McCulley as the district’s new substitute liaison, a role dedicated to recruiting substitute teachers and ensuring they are well-supported for success in the classroom.
This newly created position will provide opportunities for additional training and mentoring of substitutes, while also increasing communication and feedback between substitutes, building administrators, and teachers — all with the goal of supporting student learning.
McCulley has served USD 428 and Great Bend Middle School as a classroom teacher for 27 years. His first-hand knowledge of teaching and classroom management, combined with his approachable and positive demeanor, will serve him well in this new role.
“Substitutes play a vital role in making sure learning continues day by day,” McCulley said. “We see substitutes who want to give back to their community while making some extra income, as well as those who find substitute teaching to be a rewarding and flexible career choice. My goal is to help every substitute feel confident, prepared, and valued in their work.”
Khris Thexton, USD 428 Superintendent, shared his enthusiasm for the appointment. “Mr. McCulley’s experience in the classroom, his friendliness, and his positive outlook make him a great fit for this role. We know he will strengthen our substitute program and help create an even better experience for those who step in to support our students and staff.”
