Panther swimmers compete in Buhler

The Panther swimmers had to wait until Jan. 22 to open the 2024 portion of the season. Now action is heating up in the pools. Great Bend headed to Buhler Tuesday for another meet, and travels to Salina on Jan. 31.

The 200 yard medley team of Andrew McQuade, Matthew Williams, Kale Mermis, and Adam Hall placed ninth in 2:19.68 to miss the bronze by 23 seconds. The 200 free relay of Hall, Mermis, AJ Thurman, and Josh Sharpe finished 10th in 2:03.43, 22 seconds off bronze pace. The 400 free relay of Williams, Sharp, McQuade, and Jordan Sander also placed 10th in 4:43.22 to miss the bronze by 50 seconds.

McQuade finished 10th in the 200 free in 2:31.68, followed by Hall in 2:34.31 for 11th. A 2:01 was needed for the bronze. McQuade placed 14th in the 100 back in 1:23.69. Mermis placed 11th in the 500 free in 7:12.87, followed by Williams in 12th in 7:20.15.  Sander finished 17th in the 50 free in 29.38, four seconds off bronze pace. Sharpe placed 17th in the 100 free in 1:10.61.
