The Great Bend City Council meeting Monday night lasted 23 minutes, but Police Chief Steve Haulmark still had time to introduce the governing body to three new police officers.
This time last year, the police department was fully staffed. Haulmark said with the three new hires, the department is currently one short of being full.
"Jason Amos lives in Olmitz," said Haulmark. "He's lived here almost two years. He's originally from California. Tanner Ford is originally from Great Bend. He went away for school, worked in Oklahoma and wanted to come back home. Kamden Kennon...I've known of Kamden for quite a while...his dad has been in law enforcement for quite a long time."
Kennon also has other family members that are in law enforcement.
"I think all three of these young men are going to do a great job for us."
New officers undergo in-house training and the 14-week basic training program through the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center near Hutchinson. The KLETC trains the majority of municipal, county and state law enforcement officers in Kansas.
