William Brickey, age 78

Larned - William Douglas Brickey, 78, passed away February14, 2023 at Topeka Healthcare Resort, Topeka, Kansas.

Doug, as those who knew him called him, was born on December 4, 1944, in Stafford, to William Horace and Ruby (Stimatze) Brickey. He was part of the last graduating class of Zook High School in 1962. On January 31, 1965, he married Elizabeth Simmons, they later divorced. She survives.

While living in Wray, CO, Doug worked at Duckwall, and enjoyed his time as a member of the Jaycees. After living in Wray, he became longtime resident of Wichita where he was a Kirby Vacuum Distributor. He also volunteered at many Muscular Dystrophy events throughout the state of Kansas. Doug finally moved to Topeka three years ago to be closer to family.

Doug was known for his great sense of humor and willingness to play card games. His first pastime passion was sports. He would watch any sporting event that was on TV and wouldn't pass up the opportunity to go watch sports live. While living in Wray, Doug took his love for sports to a higher level by becoming a referee and reffed both high school football and basketball, as well as Junior College basketball. His favorite athletes to watch were his children and was in the stands to support them if they were playing, managing, or coaching.

Other survivors include; two sons, Cris (Kim) Brickey, Pottsboro, Texas, Craig (Rachael) Brickey, Omaha, Nebraska; a daughter, Cami (Nathan) Johannes, Sachse, Texas; a brother Ted (Betsy) Brickey, Grantville, Kansas; a sister, Linda Jo Pore, Topeka, Kansas and four grandchildren, Cayden, Natalie, Alexzander and Easton, and two nieces and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by; a son, Casey Robert Brickey and a daughter, Charla Ann Brickey, and his parents.

Graveside service will be 12:00 p.m. Monday, February 20, 2023, at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Zook, Kansas, with Bob Sallee presiding. Visitation with family present will be 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Monday at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned.
