Great Bend Panther football fans will still be able to follow Friday night’s game at Dodge City live, but they will not be able to watch the Great Bend Post video broadcast as the game happens.
The Eagle Media broadcast crew will be at the game Friday night to provide its normal radio coverage and record video of the Panthers. However, Dodge City High School has denied Eagle Media permission to provide a live video stream of the game because of an exclusive streaming agreement.
Eagle Media was initially informed that its video broadcast would need to be delayed for 24 hours. Dodge City High School clarified Thursday morning that the 24-hour delay is not required and Great Bend Post may make its video broadcast available immediately following the conclusion of Dodge City’s live stream.
According to the Dodge City High School Athletic Director, Dodge City is unable to grant Eagle Media permission for an additional live stream because of its contractual obligations regarding the event’s streaming and broadcast rights.
Dodge City High School will have its own live video feed of the game available for fans who choose to purchase access.
Eagle Media of Great Bend has provided live play-by-play radio and video coverage of Panther football and high school sporting events involving schools from several classifications over the years. Eagle Media has been able to provide live video coverage for local fans at Great Bend's previous games this season.
While there will be no live Great Bend Post video Friday night, Panther fans can still follow the game as it happens through the B104.3 The Point radio broadcast.
Eagle Media Great Bend General Manager Dakota Tucker is encouraging Panther fans to continue supporting the local broadcasters who provide live coverage of Great Bend athletics throughout the season.
“I would ask the Great Bend community to support our local play-by-play voices and listen to the game Friday night on B104.3 The Point rather than purchasing the video stream,” Tucker said. “We are proud to provide Panther fans with local coverage of their teams, and we appreciate everyone who continues to support local media and the businesses that sponsor our broadcasts.”
Tucker said the decision not to provide live Panther video Friday night was not made by Eagle Media.
“We understand that fans want to watch the Panthers, and we would much rather be able to provide that live video coverage as we have done for the first four weeks of the season,” Tucker said. “Unfortunately, Dodge City has decided not to allow us to provide an additional live video stream Friday night because of its exclusive streaming agreement. We’ll respect that decision, record the game and make our video available as soon as their stream has concluded. We’ll be live again next week.”
Panther fans can listen to the game live Friday night on B104.3 The Point with Mike Hesher and Shawn Behr. Pregame coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. The broadcast will also be available online by clicking the B104.3 The Point logo at GreatBendPost.com.
The complete Great Bend Post video broadcast of the game will be available following the conclusion of Dodge City’s live stream Friday night HERE.
