Comfort Pro is helping the Golden Belt Humane Society continue caring for hundreds of animals each year by donating a full pallet of water softener salt—more than 2,500 pounds—to the nonprofit organization.
The donation includes 64 bags of 40-pound water softener salt, enough to keep the shelter's water softener running for more than a year. It's also not the first time Comfort Pro has stepped in to provide the much-needed supply.
Jean Clair, board member and longtime volunteer with the Golden Belt Humane Society, said the donation will make a significant impact on the shelter's daily operations.
"We'd been back to buying salt, and I thought I'd reach out to Barry at Comfort Pro to see how much a pallet would cost," Clair said. "He immediately said, 'No, we'll just donate it.'"
At a shelter where laundry, dishes and cleaning never stop, softened water isn't just a convenience—it's essential.
"The Humane Society does a lot of laundry, a lot of cleaning and a lot of dishes," Clair said. "We start the washer at 8 a.m., and it doesn't shut off until we leave at 6. Having a water softener helps us keep everything cleaner, protects the equipment and lets us spend more time caring for the animals."
For Comfort Pro, the donation is another way to support organizations that strengthen the community.
The Golden Belt Humane Society provides temporary care for dogs, cats and many other animals while they wait to find permanent homes. In addition to housing at least 25 dogs, the shelter is often full of cats and kittens and has also cared for rabbits, ferrets, hamsters, birds and other small animals.
As a nonprofit organization, community support is critical to its mission.
"First of all, we are a nonprofit," Clair said. "We depend on donations. If it wasn't for donations, we wouldn't be able to survive. It's amazing how many donations we receive throughout the year—whether that's monetary gifts, products like the salt, memorials, and so much more."
While the salt donation will help reduce operating expenses for the next year, the shelter's needs continue year-round. Clair said the organization is always looking for donations of cat litter, cleaning supplies, cat food, kitten food and kitten formula. The Humane Society also welcomes volunteer foster families willing to care for dogs, puppies, cats, kittens and bottle-fed babies until they're ready for adoption.
"Every donation, big or small, allows us to focus on what matters most—caring for the animals," Clair said.
