Long before soccer became one of America's fastest-growing sports, Ricky Davis helped put the United States on the international soccer map.

A member of the U.S. National Team for more than a decade, Davis earned over 30 international appearances, served as captain of both the U.S. National Team and Olympic Team, and was later inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame. Widely regarded as one of the pioneers of modern American soccer, Davis played a key role in growing the sport during a time when professional opportunities and national recognition were limited in the United States.

This June, visitors to the Ellsworth Arts Gallery have a unique opportunity to view an exclusive collection of memorabilia from Davis's remarkable career while also participating in the Artist Cup: World Cup Edition, a community art competition inspired by the excitement and spirit of international soccer.

The Artist Cup features artwork from youth, teen, and adult artists who have transformed their passion for soccer into creative works of art. Throughout the month, visitors can vote for their favorite entries as artists compete in a bracket-style tournament modeled after World Cup competition.

"The Artist Cup is about bringing people together through two universal languages—sports and art," said Tina Davis, President of the Ellsworth Arts Gallery. "Ricky Davis's contributions to American soccer provide the perfect backdrop for celebrating the creativity and talent of artists throughout our region."

In addition to viewing Davis's memorabilia collection, visitors can learn about his distinguished career, his role in representing the United States on the world stage, and the growth of soccer in America over the past several decades.
