With many people celebrating the New Year by drinking champagne or other alcoholic beverages, New Year’s Eve becomes a poster child of an example to remind citizens of the dangers of drinking and driving. To help reduce the amount of drunk driving that evening, Eagle Media partnered with the Great Bend Police Department to provide a taxi service.
Great Bend City Administrator Logan Burns said the New Year’s Eve Taxi was well used this year.
"With the Police Department taxi that they did, Sergeant Gary Davis gave approximately 30 people a ride home," said Burns. "That was a big success this year."
For a small donation, Police Sergeant Davis provided the rides from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m. The taxi dropped residents off anywhere in Barton County.
All the proceeds benefited the Police Department’s Kids’ Christmas Gift fund.
