When last year’s budget was published for Barton Community College, the college anticipated finishing the year with a deficit of $1.1 million. As the fiscal year ended June 30, Barton ended with a deficit of $227,865.
Barton Vice President of Administration Mark Dean said tuition and enrollment numbers are trending in the right direction and expenditures were slightly under the budgeted amount.
"Expenditures are up from what we spent last year; however, we should be at 100% right now because we ended the year," said Dean. "We ended up being at about 98% on our expenditures. We came in lower than what we expected."

The 2022-2023 fiscal year ended with a $1.1 million deficit. The proposed 2025 budget projects a $394,823 deficit, but Dean anticipates that number to drop with increased enrollment.
Barton has just under $20 million in cash reserves.
