Great Bend Post Sports
The Panther wrestlers showed off their new No. 2 ranking at the Duwane Miller Dual Tournament at Kapaun Mt. Carmel in Wichita on Saturday. Great Bend went 5-0 with convincing wins against Junction City (71-12), Kapaun (62-10), Wichita Northwest (65-12), Campus (71-9), and fifth-ranked Andover (64-18).
Second-ranked Kaiden Hoffman pinned all five of his opponents with three of the matches decided in under a minute. Third-ranked Triston Tomlinson went 5-0 at 120 pounds with four pins, incuding two in 65 seconds or fewer, and a tech-fall to close out the day against Andover.
Third-ranked Cooper Liles had an easy day at 150 pounds. The senior pinned all five opponents with no match lasting even a minute. Sophomore Jace Schartz, ranked No. 3 at 157 pounds, moved between the 157 and 165-pound weights to finish at 5-0 with all wins coming by tech fall. Victor Reyes and Michael Montoya also switched weights with Schartz throughout the day. Montoya went 4-0 with all wins by fall. Reyes picked up open points twice.
Hayden Liles finished 4-0 at 126 pounds with all wins by fall. Andover did not wrestle its ranked kid. Aidan Davidson wrestled at 175 and 190 pounds, finishing at 4-0 with three pins and a sudden-victory win over Kapaun. Brody Schnoebelen had to wrestle just twice at 285 pounds, pinning both opponents.
Blake Stein finsihed at 4-1 at 144 pounds with three pins and an injury default. Hayden Kelly posted a 3-1 record at 138 pounds with three pins, including two in under a minute. He lost a 6-3 decision against Northwest.
Alexis Reyes went 2-2 in contested matches at 106 pounds with a pair of pins. Ambrose Kramer had a pair of open matches and finished at 1-2 with a pin and two losses by decision.
The Panthers gave up open points all day at 215 pounds with third-ranked Matthew Johnson not in action.
